eternity together: a zine
Eternity Together is a conceptual zine exploring the philosophy of eternal recurrence—the idea that time moves in a loop and that moments, both joyful and tragic, are destined to repeat infinitely. The project was designed to showcase editorial layout skills, typographic voice, and type-image composition, all anchored by a compelling narrative structure.
The foundation of the project was a story from Einstein’s Dreams by Alan Lightman, a collection of fictional vignettes imagining different models of time. I selected one story and a primary typeface inspired by it to establish the visual tone of the zine. From there, I developed a unique design direction and supporting concept.
My zine narrative was guided by a chapter in which time is circular—where people are locked in an endless loop of recurring events. This idea resonated deeply with the cyclical love and memory themes in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a film that informed my emotional and visual approach. To enrich the concept, I incorporated two supporting literary pieces: a poem by AK WOLF and a passage from Friedrich Nietzsche’s The Gay Science, where the idea of eternal return is philosophically explored.
A blue-toned, abstract photograph I captured serves as a recurring visual motif throughout the zine, reinforcing the theme of repetition and memory. The editorial layout balances fragmented narrative pacing with moments of visual pause, allowing type and image to echo the project’s central meditation on time, impermanence, and recurrence.
