THE APERTURE MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES

This concept piece was developed for the Aperture Masters of Photography Series, with the goal of designing a cohesive booklet centered on a selected photographer. The challenge: choose a photographer from a curated list, include three unedited and uncropped photographs, and integrate all provided text into a fully designed layout.

I chose Edward Weston, known for his precise compositions and strikingly detailed images of natural forms, landscapes, and nude bodies. Weston's work is defined by its ability to transform the familiar into something unfamiliar—organic forms take on an abstract, sometimes surreal quality. Inspired by this, I approached the brochure as a contemplative piece that encourages emotional and intellectual engagement.

By selecting only Weston’s photographs of female forms, I crafted a layout that highlights the ambiguity and emotional tension in his work. The manipulation of imagery and text placement was intentional, designed to not only preserve Weston’s vision but to extend it—inviting viewers to question what they’re seeing and, more importantly, how it makes them feel.
